New EDGE linear shutters

2014-01-02 The family of EDGE linear shutters for MBE is growing rapidly. CreaTec now offers three different sizes with stroke lengths of 40 mm (for mini sources), 60 mm (for NW 40 CF size sources) and 80 mm (for NW 63 CF size sources). The movement of the EDGE shutter is based entirely on rolling motion, eliminating gliding friction or bending that limit the lifetime of traditional designs. The EDGE shutter, manufactured to 1/100 mm precision, is tolerant to thermal expansion, unbalanced mechanical load, coating or particles while remaining free of play. It does not contain PEEK, bronze or other UHV problematic materials. No permanent magnets are used inside the vacuum, resulting in high bakeout and operating temperatures. CreaTec guarantees the EDGE shutter to last at least 5 million cycles.

2014-03-03 Update: A 40 mm stroke shutter currently is in endurance testing with 5 Hz in UHV. At 7:21, it has reached 10 624 797 open-close cycles.
